Welcome to October!

This is the month I head to New York to be part of a documentary being filmed in Manhattan at The Players. We still have a few spaces for the class I will be teaching from The Players Library on Saturday, October 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. EST. Snacks and beverages are part of the experience and all paint and materials will be provided for you to paint with me on canvas and with acrylic paint. As usual, we will record that class live for all our online students from 3 to 4:30 p.m. After class, any who would like to join will meet down the street to a local establishment to visit and have a bit more fun just hanging out. If you live in the area and can join us, or have any questions, please contact Chris to let him know you will be there. I would love to meet you in person.

First two episodes of The Manos Chronicles now on Tubi!

I am especially proud of you who are afraid of spiders and came to class despite that, and how you faced those fears in such unique ways. The eight legged horse was a wonderful surprise and a great way to participate while finding a way to get through it with beauty.

June Polls Are Here!

May is already over and I'm looking forward to June. Check out the polls for our next classes on June 8th and 22nd. I've come up with two more choices for each class that I hope you will like. I've enjoyed playing with the style I learned since teaching our online classes. I've always been most comfortable painting in acrylics but didn't use Sharpies much until going online. I needed to find a way for you to see what I was drawing and pens seemed the best for that. Now I'm using them more in all my work, and really like the look. The new selections I've added to Hands of Paint are the Summer Tree and the Neurographic art.  Check out this YouTube video about Neurographic art.

Help finalize this month’s classes!

Welcome to May. It is my favorite month of the year. Everything is growing. The sun is out and it's not too hot. Our next Painting with Jackey class is on Saturday, May 11th and our MST-inspired Hands of Paint class is on the 25th. I have added a couple of new paintings to our choices and took out a couple of others that will get a break. If you haven't voted in the poll, please do. I had planned to announce the winners for May in this post but as of my writing, we have a 3-way tie for the May 11th class, and currently, First Spaceship On Venus is in the lead for May 25th.

May Polls and class this Saturday!

Join us in painting the monster Megalon this coming Saturday April 27th. Arrive early for inspiration in watching Godzilla vs Megalon with some of your classmates. I may need to watch the movie again since it's been a while and you all keep me on my toes in these classes with your phenomenal creativity.

Megalon on deck!

How did you like our last painting class on Stained Glass Trees? It may have been our most serene relaxing class yet. I learned of the neurographic style of art a few months ago as I was searching for ways to help with my healing that didn't include more prescription medication. I have been exploring sound frequencies to aid me in reducing anxiety and to help me sleep more restfully. When a video popped up on YouTube about neurographic art, I got a canvas, a Sharpie pen, and watercolor pencils together to give it a try. I was intrigued and instantly hooked. The painting of trees we did last week was a version that seemed to have many of the same healing attributes. The style has a meditative quality that allows your mind to focus and not focus at the same time.

Join us this Saturday!

Are you ready for our next class coming up this Saturday, April 13th? We are creating Stained Glass Trees this time. I did this one a few weeks ago for a small in-person group. Each one came out so beautiful and now that I've taught it once, I have a few more tips and hints for success. I hope you can join me for this time. I have colors I like to use and encourage you to choose what you like best for yours. No straight lines or extra tools needed here. I always wonder and look forward to all your choices. Surface, materials, styles. Every class is like magic in the variety we all create.

Stained Glass Trees and Megalon on Deck!

Fantastic Trumpy paint class on March 23rd. My little Trumpy came out so much better than I expected he would. You all created quite a range of Trumpy's in style, color, and ideas. Always a good time on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in my studio.

Paint Trumpy from Pod People this Saturday!

I'm running late on this week's blog and I'm keeping it short. There's been so much going on lately. Good stuff, but challenging and time filling. I began teaching after school art at our local Elementary school two days a week this year and recently began another series of classes at a neighboring school two days a week. Yesterday, I taught 3 back to back classes for a monthly "Project Day.” I had 12 first & second graders in the first session.

April polls are here!

I sure loved doing mushrooms with you all last Saturday (I stole that joke from Bethany Wells McCraw). I knew the Magic Mushrooms class was going to be really great but you all still blew me away with all your fantastic variations. Check out the student gallery if you haven’t yet. Just beautiful.

February Polls are here!

Hello students. Here are the polls for the February classes. I noticed that last month a couple of our choices came in close to being chosen so I haven't added any new ones this month but I have watched a couple more MST movies and already know what inspiration I will be painting, so next month you will have two new ones to vote on Jackey Neyman Jones: The Hands of Paint. I've also got paintings you haven't seen for my Jackey Neyman Jones Paint Parties. Be sure to vote now for the February 10th and 24th classes, and stay tuned for this weeks blog on Thursday. I'll get it out on time this time..

Happy New Year, Painters!

We did it. We got through another Christmas, and I am looking forward to 2024. Our classes are going better than I imagined back when we began. You all are so creative. I love the surprises you bring and display in every painting session we have. The freedom and expression you show, helps me to free up too, and encourages all of us to experiment and explore. I will try to keep up with you by coming up with ideas you like and a variety to choose from, for our monthly polls. It's that time again for us to choose what the next paintings will be. Be sure to enter your votes for January, and remember, I am always open to new ideas for future classes.

This month’s poll results!

Hope you all had a great July 4th holiday. My birthday was July 2nd, so I traditionally celebrate for several days. This year was no exception. Had some nice times with friends and family, while putting my feet in the river a few times, and eating some tasty BBQ.

A New Hands of Paint Class tomorrow!

It Conquered The World! You heard that right. We will be painting our own interpretation of the creature from the film. Choose your own colors and do it your way. Check out last weeks blog post for any suggestions I may have and for links to see images from the film. I had fun reading up on the behind the scenes and some back story, and looking forward to talking about some as we paint.  You can even watch the entire movie for free on YouTube!

Robot Monster! Robot Monster! Robot Monster!

Torgo is at it again. I'm a bit slow on a number of things this week... or maybe I've just added more to my list. I think it is the random teases of Springtime causing me to pile more on.

We had a really great painting class on Saturday. I really love how my own painting turned out, and I am fascinated by the wide range of trees and pathway everyone created. Each one so great and so very different from one another. Over the years of teaching art, I think trees reflect something about the interpretation each person brings to their piece. It is almost like a relection of something within themselves, or maybe something about where they are in that moment. Some are willowy and reaching openly to the sky. Some are solid, rooted and of a wisened nature. I encourage you to look at yours to see if you recognize a part of yourself there.
