The Pumaman doesn’t Wrestle!
A few of you may have been confused by my referring to Mexican Wrestling in The Pumaman movie. I confused myself when I woke up in the middle of the night on Friday to say to myself, "Wait a minute! What wrestling?"
Pewwwma-man on deck!
Hey Fellow Painters,
Another week has gone by and we will soon be painting the belt buckle from Pumaman next Saturday, September 23 for the next Hands of Paint class.
Fall Into Art this Month!
Hey All. Are you ready for this Saturday class? Use any medium you are comfortable or would like to try out. Always fun to experiment with different ideas because you never know when you may find something new. Might surprise yourself, and inspire the rest of us.
September Polls!
It’s already time to do our poll for September classes. I’ve got a new painting for each class for you to choose from, so check it out, and be sure to cast your vote. Thanks for hanging in there with me last Saturday for our Mutant painting from This Island Earth. I was seriously challenged that day. You all certainly came through, as always, with some great interpretations of that creature.
Get ready to meditate with art this Saturday!
This one is super relaxing. You can almost go meditative painting it. I taught it last weekend during our little town Pride Celebration weekend, and am looking forward to doing it again with you. I've got a few fun stories of the weekend festivities, including the top notch, Portland level professional Drag Show that took place in this small Western Oregon old logging town. Truly amazing. Happy and proud to be part of this beautiful and inclusive community.
Rainbow to the Wind!
Our next painting class will be August 11th. Hope you can make it for the live class at 3pm ET. The painting that won the poll for this month is Rainbow to the Wind. Can't wait to see your versions. This one will be very relaxing. Free style with no straight lines. As you see we are using all the rainbow colors plus black and white. If you want to play with mixing your own rainbow colors, you can mix all the colors with Red, Black and Yellow primaries. We can blend different shades of brown too, from the those primaries as well.
August Polls!
I enjoyed painting Teenagers from Outer Space. As always, I love how individual you all are, and the incredibly unique interpretations you create. I finished my purple Gargon and am pleased with how it came out. If you haven't shared yours yet, we all would love to see.
It’s Gargon Time!
This week we are painting the giant lobster, aka the “Gargon” from Teenagers in Outer Space. You don't need any special tools for this one. No straight lines. But you are welcome to find a curved object to use as a tracing tool for your spacecraft. As for colors, anything you like. I painted the lobster blue in my original, and you know I like to change things a bit every time I paint another version, so who knows? I may go purple this time. Seems I've been into purple a lot lately.
This month’s poll results!
Hope you all had a great July 4th holiday. My birthday was July 2nd, so I traditionally celebrate for several days. This year was no exception. Had some nice times with friends and family, while putting my feet in the river a few times, and eating some tasty BBQ.
Poll Time for July!
It is poll time again. What will we paint for our July classes? There are a couple new ideas for Jackey Neyman Jones’ Paint Parties on July 8th and as you can see, one new addition to the poll for Jackey Neyman Jones: The Hands of Paint on July 22nd.
Get ready for the Horrors of Spider Island!
Great job everyone on your Sunflowers. All so beautiful and unique. Check out what’s already been added to the Student Gallery and send yours to emmy@dumb-industries.com if you haven’t already!
New Paint Parties session SATURDAY!
Get ready for another Jackey Neyman Jones’ Paint Parties class this coming Saturday! The poll votes are in for our June paintings. This month we are painting Sunflowers for our June 10th class. I am ready for summer, my favorite season, and sunflowers are a perfect representation. As you know, they come in a variety of sizes and color blends. As always, I will do some things differently for my new painting than this one we are working from, but I definitely will use my metallic paints again for the dots in the center of the flower… and may bring in metallic pens as well. What fun is art, if you don’t experiment and play?
Poll Time!
I thought we all created some pretty great Horrors at Party Beach. You all are so creative and it's really wonderful how you let loose and just have fun with the process. I don't get to see you in person, but the feeling I get is your willingness to play along. Don't know if it's because you are MST fans and that's just the way we do things around here, or if it is because you are in the comfort and safety of your own space or what, but I really enjoy the energy of playing with you.
The Horror of Party Beach on deck!
Well. I said I would have some new painting ideas to add to our poll for the June classes, and I don't. What an odd couple weeks. Many opportunities for me to practice changing direction while still staying focused and still getting things done. Not an easy task for someone who always has five to seven different projects going at once. Amazingly, I accomplished quite a lot, and much of it were things that had been waiting for me to get to for some time. Feels good to make progress, but it didn't happen the way I had planned in my head.
Hey fellow creators!
Great class. One of my favorites so far in what you all created. Dreamy. Magical. The jellyfish painting was almost meditative to do. There were times I just had to stop talking, and be one with the art. It was fun to have the jellyfish represent family. Mine included me as the big one. My two sons as the smaller two and their kids, my 4 grandkids. It was great too, because I personally needed that time with you to just relax and enjoy the process after a busy week. From the results, it looks as though it was similar you too. If you couldn't attend the live class, I hope you do this one and please share with the rest of us.
Poll Time!
Hope you like our choices. I've got my favorites but I'm happy with them all, so whatever you choose is great with me. We always have fun.
A New Hands of Paint Class tomorrow!
It Conquered The World! You heard that right. We will be painting our own interpretation of the creature from the film. Choose your own colors and do it your way. Check out last weeks blog post for any suggestions I may have and for links to see images from the film. I had fun reading up on the behind the scenes and some back story, and looking forward to talking about some as we paint. You can even watch the entire movie for free on YouTube!
It Conquered The World on deck!
Hey there to my favorite painting pals. I'm finding myself playing more with technique while also expanding style. I've even sold three pieces of art in the last month because of creating more and putting it out there. Thank you for your inspiration.
Our last painting class was just sooo relaxing. At first, I was a little concerned about stretching the painting to fill the time. I even imagined it going on like the 7 minute opening driving scene to Manos: The Hands of Fate, but I love some of the directions we went with the extra time. You gave me some good ideas for other paintings that I'll show you next week. Working to get a head a bit more so we can vote and know what our upcoming paintings will be farther in advance.
April classes on the horizon, and an important update on your membership!
Another wonderful class we had last Saturday. I am very pleased with how my Crawling Eye honey pie came out, and I love how some of the ones in class came out scary, but by the most part they looked like just poor misunderstood creatures.
...and the winner of the poll for this Saturday’s class is…
For those creating on a physical surface, I glued crumpled tissue paper for the main part of its head, and then paint to add more depth and to see the wrinkles better. I was initially intrigued by the movie poster of this film, but then watched the actual movie and saw how different it was from the creature on screen. It's as though the person who made the poster never watched it, and only went with the title. Anyhow, I really like the giant head with a giant creepy eye and lots of arms. It looked like it was made from papermache with long stringy arms moved around by thread like a puppet. Very amatuerish, but also charming. You can almost feel sorry for it.
