Hello to my Happy Little Painters!

Poll time for the next Hands of Paint class on March 25! I think the recent paintings I've done are some odd reflection to life in general. Not sure at all what it means, but I do feel that the things we create when we get into a space for creating taps into other parts of our minds. Although MST3K does riff a lot of monster films, it is still intersting I've chosen to paint these monsters. Working out a few inner demons, perhaps? Or maybe just overthinking as I tend to do. Anyhow, let me know what you think and also let me know what films you would like to see represented in a future paint class.

Torgo Tuesday… on a Wednesday!

Are you ready for Robot Monster this Saturday? I've been looking forward to this one and to what you all do with it. I learned some fun things about the film to talk about while we paint. You know me. I can just chatter away. If you haven't watched Robot Monster and get a chance this week, go for it. I enjoyed it and you might be inspired to some ideas I don't offer in class.

Robot Monster! Robot Monster! Robot Monster!

Torgo is at it again. I'm a bit slow on a number of things this week... or maybe I've just added more to my list. I think it is the random teases of Springtime causing me to pile more on.

We had a really great painting class on Saturday. I really love how my own painting turned out, and I am fascinated by the wide range of trees and pathway everyone created. Each one so great and so very different from one another. Over the years of teaching art, I think trees reflect something about the interpretation each person brings to their piece. It is almost like a relection of something within themselves, or maybe something about where they are in that moment. Some are willowy and reaching openly to the sky. Some are solid, rooted and of a wisened nature. I encourage you to look at yours to see if you recognize a part of yourself there.

Bottle Art!

I've been really busy with lots of good things, while learning how to better manage my time. When we created our Cat in Tree image a few months ago, Inga Wohlgemuth painted hers on a wine bottle and added a string of fairy lights to the inside. As I have said often in the classes I've taught over the years, the inspiration I get from students has expanded my own art. As you can see from the first photo, I took that idea and ran with it, and have already taught a couple classes as you can see from the other photos. I've also been invited to begin teaching at several new venues. Such a fun idea that I'm wondering how to do it online and would really love to see the diversity of creation you all would come up with. You would supply your own bottle and maybe we can mail out the corks with fairy lights. Suggestion and input is greatly welcomed.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Whatever your tradition for this time of year, I wish you the very best for you and those you love. As I get older, I find hibernation to be most dersired, so in daily life, I tend to be more introspective and quiet. A bit less social and active. Teaching the painting classes over the past seven years or so, have been a great way to keep me out in the world while feeding my soul through seeing others find and grow their creative spark. I love seeing the inspiration we give each other and I learn as much as those who attend the classes.

Robot Monster next week?

Hey Painters,

We're having fun watching some MST films looking for inspiration. Mark and I watched Robot Monster from 1953 the other night and really enjoyed it. Thought you might like something from that film. Here is a link in case you want to watch it, or learn more. I made sure to add the thousand bubble machine, since it clearly has significance throughout. Love the cave too, and always enjoy an opportunity to show you a trick from my faux finish career.

Santa Claus Positively Evil!

Hey all. Thanks to you who came to play with me and paint Gamera in our last Hands of Paint class. I love the ones I've seen so far from you. If you haven't shared yet, please do, so we can add them to the student gallery. I love going through it and always get a hit of inspiration when I do. See below for this past class’s submissions! Email yours to chris@dumb-industries.com.

Torgo Tuesday 11/22

Hi all you creators! We had a fun class on 2nd Saturday for our Lighting on the Ocean painting. Love all the results and individual styles. I had an interesting beginning to class, and was very grateful it was an uncomplicated painting. As I prepared in my studio right before class, the painting we were to work from was nowhere to be found. I had apparently left it in another workspace that is a 15 minute drive one way.

All Hail Gamera!

Hope you all had a good week. Personally, I'm so glad the mid term elections are over and my mailbox won't be crammed with all those political pitches for a while. Also glad to be adjusting to daylight savings time. Between that and sudden freezing weather after a whole lot of nice outdoor time and beautiful days, it took a little getting used to.

November and Beyond!

Happy November. Hope you all had a great Halloween. I would love for you to share your costumes on our Facebook group page. Fun to see what you created for yourselves, kids, pets. I had fun making a couple things for Shanka puppy. She loves her little Masters robe dog coat, but didn't care for the bat wings much. Got her to wear them just long enough to get a photo. The spider costume was the biggest challenge for her. She hates it and would not sit still for a photo. I'll get it on her and see if she'll run around in it for a video. It is pretty funny. I'll share it on the FB page if it works out. It is ultimately up to her. She most certainly has a mind of her own.

Meet the new Master

I don't know how your time has been since last we connected, but I have been crazy busy. I had three custom Masters robe orders and luckily, only two needed to arrive at their destination by Halloween. I've also made a few doggy Masters Robes. I'm sure the one for my little Shanka will be the smallest I make, unless someone wants one for a Ferret or something. She makes a great model, don't you think?

Happy Torgo Tuesday!

I have next months MST painting inspired class on my easel now and will share it in our Facebook student page as soon as I've finished him. Torgo will be fun to do I look forward to all your versions of our beloved stumbling goat man. I will be posting some photos of my new little Shanka puppy on the FB page too. She's growing every day but still walks like Torgo. She gets distracted when running and often falls over. Pretty cute.

Godzilla in the rearview, Torgo on the horizon!

You guys sure impress me. Amazing range of style and fabulous interpretation. If you haven't shared your painting yet on the FB group page, please do. We all would love to see them. I was so inspired by the ones I saw, I went back and finished up mine after class. Liking this one better than the one I taught from. On the right is my latest Godzilla. Great colors for Fall too.
